The English Department of Universitas Negeri Padang is proud to present “The Fourth International Seminar on English Language and Teaching (ISELT-4)” in 11-12 May, 2016
The International Seminar on English Language & Teaching (ISELT) is an annual seminar organized by English Department, Faculty of Languages and Arts, Universitas Negeri Padang, Indonesia.
Given the magnitude and the generally perceived success of SELT in 2013 and ISELT 2014 and 2015, we hope ISELT-4 2016 will bring comparable success and more impact on our understanding of the English Language and its teaching and our professional development as English Language researchers and ELT practitioners which in turn will bring most benefits to our students.
Rationale
The development of EFL Learning and Teaching has continuously challenged and motivated researchers and practitioners to learn, think and discuss how to study and teach a foreign language in innovative and advanced way. Within multilingual societies, the strengthening role of English as an international language has led changes on the English curriculum and teaching approaches. These changes are also informed by research findings in the English language teaching as well as language and literature. There is a tendency that interconnectedness between English language studies and language teaching has always been exchangeable in modern and multilingual society.
Developing advanced studies is highly needed in multilingual societies. Thus, the need of sharing ideas, informed-based practices, and research findings and the like is crucial. Findings of research in linguistics, literature, and the teaching of English as a foreign language will not only be useful in each corresponding field, but also across the fields of studies.
In accordance with this, The English Department of Universitas Negeri Padang, Indonesia organizes the fourth International Seminar on English Language and Teaching (ISELT) with the purpose of bringing up to the forum an issue of advancing EFL learning in multilingual societies.
